Fashion Meets Passion –  the brainchild of Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism International 2015 and Miss Tourism Metropolitan International 2016 1st Runner-Up -  Janela Joy Cuaton, is set to conquer the runway tonight at the Rotana City Centre Hotel.

Prior to the event, the kids who are part of the show, went through personal mentoring by Janela through a series of workshops on gaining self-confidence, modeling, posing before the camera and self-development that are meant to hone and enhance the potentials of girls from age 4 onwards.  It is a short course, but a meaningful one on personality development where kids who have been joining since its first season, have acquired not only the proper posture and walking but more importantly, self-esteem.

Now, on its fourth season, Fashion Meets Passion exceeds previous seasons as the kids were also given the time to enjoy themselves through a tour of B Square Mall, the newest development from the Al Bandary Group intended to be the next shopping and kids entertainment destination for families. Located in Al Thumama at F ring road, B Square Mall with its spacious design,  pulsates with colors and offers fun and more quality time for families.  It is home to Velocity Gaming Center which spans a large area for games and entertainment.

B Square Mall and Velocity welcomed Janela and the Fashion Meets Passion kid models  by providing  a space for them at the Roxy Cinemas to have their individual poses taken by professional photographers as part of their portfolio.  Moreover, Velocity gave them access to enjoy and experience the game machines and rides.  Snacks and light meals were provided to the participating kids.

Fashion Meets Passion began in 2015.  It is not just a Kids’ Fashion Show.  It reaches out to the community through its charity projects.  On its first season, around 1,200 individuals in Southern Leyte were the beneficiaries of a feeding program while 700 school children were provided with bags and school supplies.  A home for the aged facility were given provisions during the second season while the National Children’s Hospital was the beneficiary during the third season.  Through the program, distressed OFW’s were also provided with plane tickets for them to be reunited with their families in the Philippines.

When asked about the concept and motivation behind Fashion Meets Passion, Janela quips, “I look at modeling as a form of art.  I have come to embrace it.  For somebody like me who does not have an exceptional talent while growing up, I have found my niche in modeling.  I felt that this is what I can share to girls and help them gain self-esteem.”  Janela further states that, “Growing up in Doha, I understand the need for more platform or activities for children who are usually just staying at home while their parents work.  Fashion Meets Passion provides them the opportunity to develop themselves as they grow up with their potentials in full bloom.”

As for the charity part of the program, Mrs. Solaida Cuaton, Janela’s supportive mom volunteered a glimpse into the beauty queen’s passion for helping others.  She recalls about that one particular moment when Janela was around six years old and they were both looking at the stars.  The young Janela said, “Mama, when we become rich, can I help others who are less fortunate than us?”  At a young age, Janela has realized in her own words that ‘there is a bigger world outside mine’.  (More about Janela on the next feature story about her.)  With this awareness and realization, Janela’s initiatives are not bereft of charity and a sense of social responsibility.

Fashion Meets Passion will definitely showcase Janela’s commitment to contribute not just about fashion and modeling to the 50 girls and young ladies that she mentors but more about good memories, positivity as they undergo personality development with passion.

Catch the show tonight from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.at the Rotana City Centre Hotel.  Watch the kids’ transformation as they take the runway with aplomb!
